SB 1203 Update + Helpful Resources
While SB 1203 technically passed the Assembly Business & Professions Committee last week there is an opportunity for amendments. There’s still an opportunity to shape SB 1203.
During the June 16th hearing, CALSAGA President David Chandler testified voicing the concerns of California’s private security industry. Our message to lawmakers is clear: we support high professional standards for security officers, but SB 1203 in its current form goes too far in the wrong direction.
The bill would force employers to fund training controlled by SEIU, restrict employer-led programs that already work, and impose over $2 billion in new annual costs — putting jobs at risk and pushing licensed operators out of the market right before California hosts the 2028 Olympics.
CALSAGA has been at the table, and we’re not done fighting for smart, workable solutions.
What we’re calling for:
- Meaningful amendments that preserve employer flexibility
- Training standards built by security professionals, not outside labor organizations
- Protections for the licensed officers and companies who keep California safe
