While SB 1203 technically passed the Assembly Business & Professions Committee this week there is an opportunity for amendments.
During the June 16th hearing, CALSAGA President David Chandler testified voicing the concerns of California’s private security industry. Our message to lawmakers is clear: we support high professional standards for security officers, but SB 1203 in its current form goes too far in the wrong direction.
The bill would force employers to fund training controlled by SEIU, restrict employer-led programs that already work, and impose over $2 billion in new annual costs — putting jobs at risk and pushing licensed operators out of the market right before California hosts the 2028 Olympics.
CALSAGA represents more than 400 companies and approximately 300,000 licensed security professionals across California. We’ve been at the table, and we’re not done fighting for smart, workable solutions.
What we’re calling for:
– Meaningful amendments that preserve employer flexibility
– Training standards built by security professionals, not outside labor organizations
– Protections for the licensed officers and companies who keep California safe
CALSAGA will continue working with the bill’s author as well as the union to represent the voice of the private security industry. We will keep you posted as this develops.
